Join Melissa Barnes for a hands-on millinery workshop where you’ll learn the foundations of working with sinamay OR Fosshape to create beautifully structured headpieces. This workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refine their millinery skills in a relaxed, creative environment.

TIME: 10am-3pm (30 min break for lunch)
WHERE: Samson, Western Australia 6163
COST: $450 – all materials are included (just bring a sewing kit, apron etc – see below for more info)
SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN
-tips for clean, refined millinery construction
-prepare and protect hat blocks for use
-block foundation materials, use blocking pins, steam and shape
-stiffen the foundation material
-prepare and cut wire, stitch frames into bases for stability and strength
-finish the inside with lining and ribbon
-attach an elastic and/or comb
-create basic trims such as sinamay bias strips.
Bring any of your own materials to trim with (such as crinoline, feathers or quills) or anything else you would like to learn how to use on your hat and we can explore them, time permitting.
WHAT TO BRING – these items will be available on the day, but you are welcome to bring your own tools to use if you prefer.
Basic sewing kit with scissors (fabric and/or regular scissors), needles, sewing thread (white and black), wire cutters, thimble, apron etc. A sewing machine if available.
