Winter Millinery Workshops Perth

Description

Join Melissa Barnes for a range of hands-on workshops where you’ll learn the various forms and finishes in millinery. These workshops are perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refine their millinery skills in a relaxed, creative environment.

Places are limited and workshops are held in Samson, (Perth) Western Australia 6163

Some ‘creating’ sessions are designed to work in conjunction with a second ‘finishing’ workshop – these are labelled with an ‘a’ and ‘b’. It is not essential to complete both, but it is highly recommended if you would like to learn the technique in full.

Choose from the following workshops

1a. Felt pillboxes and buttons 
Work with stiffeners – PVA and Chemical
Blocking with pins/cord
Steaming and shaping
Wiring
Basic felt decoration/trims

1b. Linings and basic trims
Bring a pre-blocked button or pill box (created in workshop #1a)
Measure, cut fabric and ribbon
Sew lining into base
Stitch in combs and elastic
Create various trims to finish your base (crinoline, quills, ribbon cockades etc)

2a. Fosshape and Leather bases
Pin and block fosshape (thermoplastic)
Block leather
Stiffen fosshape
Create leather details (feathers and motifs)
Cover and finish base with leather

2b. Leather flowers and leaves 
Cut, stiffen, shape (cold and hot) using tools, construct flowers and leaves from leather

3. Wire frames
Create a unique shape without a hat block.
Construct and cover a wire frame in the shape of a pillbox or headband/swirl.

4. Parisisal boater/halo – Sat JULY 11th10am – 2pm
Block, stiffen and finish a boater (or halo) made from parisisal straw.

5a. Sinamay blocking and basics
Block sinamay pillbox or button
Use stiffener and tools
Create various sinamay bias strips and other trims (leaves, roses etc).

6. Feather flowers and shapes

Cut, colour, shape, mount and secure feathers for use in trims and flowers.

7. Sinamay brims and swirls

Block a dish or boater shape in one piece
Sew and finish brim edges
Create sinamay bias swirls

WHAT TO BRING – All millinery materials are supplied.

Bring a basic sewing kit with scissors (fabric and/or regular scissors) with needles, sewing thread (white and black), wire cutters, thimble, apron etc. A note pad and pen. BYO refreshments/lunch.

Workshop Booking & Cancellation Policy

Due to the small, hands-on nature of our workshops and materials prepared in advance, the following policy applies:

• Full payment is required as places are limited
• Cancellations made 14 days or more prior to the workshop are eligible for a full refund or transfer
• Cancellations made 7–14 days prior are eligible for a 50% refund or full credit toward a future workshop
• Cancellations made within 7 days of the workshop are non-refundable

If you are unable to attend, your place may be transferred to another person at any time.

Workshop dates are subject to change in unforeseen circumstances. In this case, all participants will be offered the option to transfer to a new date or receive a full refund.
